March 19th-20th: Relay for Life is just two weeks away! You can have fun and earn 18 hours, while raising money for the American Cancer Society! It’s not too late to join our AMSA team. Remember: any individual who raises at least $100 will receive a Relay shirt. (it will even have AMSA’s logo on it).

March 17th: “Preparing for the MCAT” Join us in Biomedical building room 126 at 5:45pm for some quick AMSA event updates and MCAT bootcamp with the Princenton Review. Coffee and refreshments will be served, so take advantage of this free and valuable opportunity to gain insight on the Princenton prepcourse by going over the various subjects that the MCAT covers and having all of your questions answered. We’ll also look at the upcoming events we have planned for this year, including volunteer opportunities and more autopsy viewings. The meeting will be held in the usual location, Biomed room 126. Feel free to invite friends!

Feb 24: Would you like your local AMSA membership sponsored? Five lucky applicants will receive membership for a year, complete with membership card and t-shirt. Applications can be downloaded under MyFAU groups under “Files” and “Forms” and is due by midnight. If there are complications downloading the application, send your concerns to Michelle.

Also, officers will go over events we have planned throughout semester, fundraising, volunteering, and other exciting opportunities that members will get a chance to enjoy. You will also be able to pay club dues, pick up member t-shirts, and ask questions you may have.

Boxes have been set up on all campuses for the collection of clothing suitable for the tropics and non-perishable food items, with special need for the following: pop-top cans of evaporated milk, fish and meat, and bottles of water. Please do not give anything in a can that has to be opened with a can opener!!! Look for the collection boxes on the Boca Raton campus Breezeway, in Chartwells locations, in Student Government offices on all campuses, and in the following partner campus locations:

Hours of collection on the Breezeway are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; donations may be made at the other locations during normal business hours Monday-Friday. Collections will continue at least until Jan. 29 and possibly beyond that date. Cash and checks will not be accepted at any FAU location!!

Focusing on the social change model of leadership, the 2010 Student Leadership Institute will invite you to “Be the Change” for your community and/or your organization. Whether you are a seasoned student leader who wants to inspire your organization to grow or an up-and-coming leader who is looking to find your personal passion or niche, this is your chance to grow and get to know other student leaders on campus. All students are welcome to be a part of this institute; you can participate with members of your student organization or independently. All students must register individually; during the sign-in process you will be able to indicate whether you wish to participate independently or with your fellow club members.

The Student Leadership Institute is a 4-week program, and there will be two separate 4-week sessions.

Session 1 will take place on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginning on Jan. 29 and ending on Feb. 19.

Session 2 will take place on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginning on March 19 and ending on April 9.

The Deadline to register for Session I is Friday, Jan. 22. Further details regarding meeting locations and activities will be distributed upon registration.

Hope you guys are all haveing a great weekend

On October 19-21 (monday-wednesday) and October 26-28 (monday-wednesday) of the week after from 1030am-2pm AMSA will have a table set up on the breezeway to promote The Breast Cancer Charity Fashion Show and The Gore Gallery (which I am very excited for !) and of course also to allow students to become more familiar with AMSA.

We will need at least 3-4 people to man the tables and volunteer hours will be given. If you can only do it for an hour thats cool too just let me know by emailing me back with the date(s) and time(s) you can be at the tables Bonus in doing this: a good opportunity to be involved with AMSA and get to know the members/officers !

We’ll be out there 1030am-2pm if you have questions or drop off membership fees/applications, gore gallery(!), breast cancer fashion show or just cause you want to say hi, we’ll take that too

We are now raffling tickets for prizes to be given away at the fair.
The prizes include a digital camera, tv, laptop, etc. Raffles can be
purchased for $2 at our meetings, coffee talks, breezeway, or by
request.

AMSA is looking forward to our annual event, the Gore Gallery. This is
where we showcase different types of diseases, just in time for
Halloween. If anyone is interested in participating/volunteering please
